Before & After

Hey Everyone!!!

A lot of kiddos have trouble with before and after - either the position concept or the time concept. When I work on this concept I start by working on the position concept. It is easier for the little guys to understand. I line up little manipulatives (there are some great items from Lakeshore Learning) and then ask the child to put an item before another. I teach that before means in front and after means behind. I don't move on to after until I am sure they have mastered before.

After they have learned and understood the concept in positions then I move on to time. I give directions like touch the pig but before you do that touch the cow. I will show that that I physically have touched the cow before the pig. As they have mastered this I give instructions like touch the cow before the pig. And then I move on to after.

There are so many items you can use to teach before and after. I really like the app Easy Concepts which you can target just before or after or both of them together. Check it out- it's only $4.99 from Easy Speak Enterprises.

Noun Derivatives

Hey
Have you ever had to work on noun derivatives- change a noun to a verb? Someone who shops is a shopper, someone who teaches is a teacher. I like this goal, it is fun and easy! However, changing nouns to verbs is something I have had a hard time finding, so I made a package myself!

Take a look!

Love it and List it: Favorite Technology

 http://thespeechroomnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/Screen+Shot+2013-07-16+at+9.26.24+PM1.jpg

This month Love it and List it Linky is on Favorite Technology. Thank you Jenn at The Speech Room News for hosting!

What do I love and use for technology?

1. Of course my iPad. I don't always use it but it is 1 thing that the kids love and it is a reward in itself. It is  also  a lot easier and lighter to carry than my huge bag of speech materials!
Featured are some of my favorite apps!

Summer? Not yet, .....but it is Spring!!

Ok, Ok,  I know its not summer yet but it sure is spring!!!

Happy First day of spring!

I have been getting that itch! That itch that you get to have warmer weather, barbeque, and just basically go outside! I live in northern Alberta and we have some really cold days. There were days when it was colder than -35 with the wind chill!!! And snow- I read that our average amount of snow is 48 inches or 123.5 cm and I am sure we've that much and probably more!

All of this cold weather and snow has made me think of summer so I made a new product call Speech at the Beach!

Speech at the Beach

Get ready and hopefully it comes quicker!!

Old School Saturday

Happy Old School Saturday!

Remember back in the day we used to use articulation cards that we had to color, and there were very few resources out there. Now I can say that I am overwhelmed at all of the ideas and resources that are out there! Just check out Pinterest- they never end!

Let's talk about some of the things we used use....

http://www.creatingcommunicators.net

Back in the day this is what I used for following directions and teaching concepts. This particular page I would use to teach top row,  and bottom row. This was long before I knew anything about clip art or had a color printer at work, lol!

I used these 2 pages for  teaching first, last and second in a series.

Now I use this to teach following directions, among other items. You can download it for free! If you want pin it too!!

Isn't it great how times have changed? I would love to hear about some of the items you used to used back in the day! Comment below.

Treat Bucket

Hey everyone
Creating Communicators: Treat Bucket

I love tangible reinforcements, and the kids do too! My favourite reinforcerment for my kids is my treat bucket. For me, it is a quick and easy alternative to games.  Normally, I bring one of three things with me to my sessions: a game, a treat bucket, or I allow them to use my iPad. Sometimes playing a game can be time consuming, so instead I'll let the kids pick a treat instead. When the little guys arrive and they know that they can get 1 of the three fun things, the children tend to work harder, and the session goes more smoothly. The bucket is really easy to fill too; I just go to the dollar store for all of my goodies. I love ring pops, pencils, erasers, gum, stickers, little toys (cars), and bracelets, almost anything!  The kids think that my treat bucket is awesome and for $20 I can get a lot of stuff for it!!!

Tell me what kind of reinforcements you like to use.

March Speech and Language Package

Hey Everyone!

Do you ever get tired of the same old speech products? And who wants to cut out, and laminate another set of articulation card? Nope, me either. I made a quick, easy little package for March that has a leprechaun theme. Most of it can be printed in black and white too! YAY!
This package targets articulation (any sound at word, phrase, or sentence level).

It also targets comparing/contrasting, irregular plurals, irregular past tense, segmenting words and conditional directions.
I have it on Teachers Notebook and Teachers Pay Teachers
It is only $1.50!
I really hope you enjoy it!

May the luck of the Irish be with you!
