Sentence building with your child!

Oral cloze ( Oral Cloze is when you are reading with your child, you leave out words that your child can fill in. It can be words at the end of a sentence ("Jack and Jill went up the ------" and the child fills in- hill.") activities encourage students to predict words using meaning and grammar.

• Prediction is a fundamental strategy for successful reading.

• Reading together predictable books with your child. Like Brown Bear, Brown Bear. Have your child fill in the words. If they have trouble, just finish the phrase for your child, no pressure!
• Read a sentence and pause for the missing word. Ask your child to give the missing word, “What would sound right ?”

• Vary the type of missing words (describing words, colours, shapes, actions, pronouns, etc.)

Here is an app you can use to help build sentences!~
