Post Halloween & THE OLD LADY
Hi guys!
I know we're already into November but I wanted to show you a cute activity I used at Halloween, THE OLD LADY WHO SWALLOWED A BAT! I have purchased some of the old lady books and look forward to using them in therapy! Themes and books are a great idea and an easy way to plan therapy.
The first activity that I really found useful was the sequencing activity. We targeted first, next, last, second, third, etc. It was a little more difficult for some of my kids telling me it's something we need to be working on!
Below is a ghost activity that targeted irregular plurals and irregular past tense.
There were 2 sets of ghosts and the kids cut out 1 set. After they used the word in a phrases they would paste it on its matching ghost. Very easy and the kids really liked the activity!

Word Classes
Word classes (associations) is a big part of the vocabulary goal. Personally, it's one of my favorite goals to target. I have been using this "homemade" resource for years. I used boardmaker to make it!
I have the kids chose one of the bottom items to go with the top item and then get them to explain why it goes together.
I added some tricky ones to really get the kids thinking. I have one that shows bubbles on the top and a whistle and popcorn on the bottom. The answer is whistle because you blow bubbles and you blow a whistle! I have also made some that have 2 possible answers. I accept any answer as long as they can justify it in their "why" answer.
Let me know what you use for word classes!
Cheers,
Mindy

Preschool Online Resources
Preschoolers and Language!
I have been working with the preschool population for about 10+ years and I am always looking for inexpensive and fun ways to get the little kiddies talking and interacting. I love using books and songs to encourage language. Preschoolers can be a fun bunch to work with. I love their honestly, humor, and pizazz for life! Nothing is ever dull with these little guys! They make me laugh almost daily. Today a kid told me that I looked like I have a big belly (I am 7 months pregnant) and another asked me if I was freaking him out! LOL! Always a good time!
In the speech world, you know as well as I do, that we need cheap and accessible resources! I have found so many useful, cute and free on line resources so I thought I would share some of my finds with you!
1. KIZCLUB- this is a great free website because they have printables (b & w and color) that you can use on felt boards or with Velcro. There are also coloring pages you can use to go with your activity. Their printables include many popular books, songs, nursery rhymes, and much more.
2. Making Learning Fun- this is another great free website because they have resources listed by activities and by books. Again you can use these printables on felt boards or give the kids coloring pages or other activities. This site has many activities that can be used to extend books, songs, nursery rhymes, and themes.
3.Perkilou Products- this site has free and paid materials available that are more speech therapy related. There are free books to print off, barrier games, and homework for speech therapy. There are many cute little ideas on here! I love the Haunted House book that would be great for Halloween!
4. Sparklebox - this one has A LOT of resources! It has many items for books, activities for language and literacy. I particularly loved some of their phonological awareness activities! Some of their phonics books can be used for articulation and they have posters that can be used as a visual with kids for some of the sounds. They also have free communication and language materials too! This is another freebie site!

Sweet Shoppe: Following Spatial Directions
The Sweet Shoppe
I found this handy dandy little product and I wanted to share it with all of you!
First of all, the graphics are super cute and really bright! The package includes pages of one and two step directions. This would be great for kids in about grade 3 and up but you can also use it for younger kids and then just vary the length and complexity of the directions. Some of the directions are a little more difficult but if they are too difficult you can definitely vary them. Personally, I love the more difficult directions because it seems like the kids I usually work with need a little more advanced directions.
Another thing I love is that on the direction sheet there is a picture included of the correct answer. Great idea! It doesn't get any easier than that! You can see and show your kiddo exactly what the picture should look like.
There are little pictures of candy which I put in an old glass jar and the kids get a token candy every time they get the answer correct. I also put a few candies in my jar so that the kiddos can hand in 5 candy tokens for 1 real candy. The kiddos love it! Depending on the needs and restrictions of your students you may have to vary this part a bit. :)
There are so many concepts and prepositions targeted in this package! Some include, middle, under, left, above, below, bottom, next to, between, and more. There are trickier directions, for example, put the cookies in the middle of the middle shelf. WOW! Love it!
I hope you like it!
