Speech at the .... Parade!

Hey Everyone!

During the summer many kids do not attend speech therapy (usually because they receive it at school) and I thought what can I do to help? So, this summer every Monday I will be posting ideas of how you can enhance your child's speech and language skills at different spots that people frequent during the summer. I will be posting on the zoo, carnival, parade, camping, and much more!

Today is my third post at the PARADE!!

Trick 1- Sequencing the Floats! When you are watching the parade you will see and use words like first, next, last, second, third, to talk about the order that you see the floats. You can also use phrases like "behind the red one" or "before the float with the big yellow bird, etc."

These are pics from when my kids were much younger!

Trick 2- Labeling the attributes of the floats! Talk about the floats, and their attributes like that one has animals on it, or it is being pulled by a---
, and this one is large and that one is small, etc.

Trick 3- Model grammar- remember to use correct grammar with plurals and verb tenses. That one that went by is - or here come 10 horses, and the one that is coming is--, etc.

Fun In The Sun Linky

Here is my blog post on Favorite Summer Time Therapy Games!

1. Water Table and Sand Toys- you can use these to elicit language and summer time vocabulary.

2. Hot Potato Game- you can use this for artic. and have the child say a word with their target sound every time they pass the potato  or for vocabulary you can have the child name an item from a group.
3. Carson Adventure Pak- This is great is you can go outside! You can use this to find and identify bugs, leaves and other fun things outside!

4. Learning Resources Camp out and Tent- And if you can't go outside bring the outside in! (hopefully  you have a lot of room!) Have a pretend camp out to talk about vocabulary related to camping or you can say a verb and then have the child act it out. Another idea is look on TPT there are many camping related items you can purchase to target many different language goals.

5. Jumbo Farm Animals And Barn (Tent)- Here is another great one for little guys. They love playing! You can use the animals (again) for vocab and then talk about the animals by labeling attributes and comparing and contrasting them. Basically anything you can think of! I know the kids will love this!!

Wild About Books Wednesday

I am linking up with Speech is Sweet and her Wild about Books Wednesday!

 http://speechissweet.blogspot.ca/

Today I am posting about "Gilbert the Great" and "Don't Eat the Teacher!"
I found 2 really cute books that I thought would be great for social skills - Gilbert the Great and Don't Eat the Teacher!
Gilbert the Great is a story about a shark and how he deals with his best friend moving, and Don't Eat the Teacher is about a shark that bites everything on his first day of school. They are a great introduction to younger kids on how to behave in certain social situations. I really like these books as they get the conversation going on how to act and also forces the children to come up with a better option.

In this pack I've included 2 social games:
It also includes /sh/ articulation cards and a craft that goes along with the articulation cards.

Here is a cute pic my 6 month old in a shark mask!!
He is so cute!

Mindy
