Reading and Comprehension

READING AND COMPREHENSION- Canada

Let's talk about a little thing called Canada! Now, as a Canadian, I have travelled, and nobody knows anything about Canada except that its cold. Well, now that might be true (sometimes), we have a lot more going for us than just harsh winter weather.
Canada is a magnificent, beautiful country with friendly, smart people that say more things than just "eh!"
I put some of that information together for our students.

This Reading Comprehension Packet is filled with 4 Canadian topics that are 1 page each. Each topic contains 5 response sheets to help build comprehension. This packet is designed to build comprehension for older students- grades 4-7.
Topics
  • Canada's Climate
  • Canadian Cities
  • Northern Lights -Aurora Borealis
  • Canadian Lakes
***************************************************************************
Also Included in the download: Just print, and stack, no laminating or cutting required!
This packet can be used in a variety of ways...
1. Orally- this is a great way to build comprehension with students who are not yet ready to write a response or read the books independently. You can read the book out loud and students can practice responding orally in a group setting.
2. Small Groups or Partners- The topics include short topics with many new words to increase vocabulary. This would be a perfect way to incorporate shared reading and group work.
3. Independent Work- For students who are more fluent in their reading, this would be a great way to assess their reading comprehension and ability to respond appropriately on the response sheets.
The response sheets are multiple-choice, short answer and fill in the blank.

Valentine Centers!

 Valentine Classroom Centers

Well the big V day is coming up and I made something that you can use in your class or with your caseload and it won't take forever to prep. The best part is I've made it so that you can use each of these activities in different ways- depending on your student needs.

For example, these mats can be used to identify the first sound, segment the sounds, label the category name or list 3 attributes of each item.

This other product can be used for:
associations- match the items that go together
identify the beginning sound of the item
label the category that the items are from.
