Boom Boom Balloon

My son recently won this game last Sunday we tried it out at home! We went to a Chinese Auction where you buy tickets on items and if you're number is chosen you win the item. He was cute and excited when he won, it was hilarious!
To play the game You have to roll the die and then you push the sticks in the amount on the die (1-3). My kids loved the game probably because I lost! This game got me thinking about therapy (of course) and I thought what a great reinforcement game for articulation. The game is inexpensive and easy to play and put together

Here is a pic of my gang!

Let me know what new games you like for therapy!

How Do You Use It? An Object Function Packet

I have recently started working with an ESL kindergarten student who is able to read but can not answer a simple question. Although impressive that she can read, it doesn't do much good if she doesn't understand what she reads or is unable to answer simple questions (in conversation or about what she has read.) It occurred to me that her parents probably encouraged reading but were unaware of how to encourage her natural language skills. Most likely because they are speaking a different language at home. A whole different topic.....

Anyway, I went on the hunt to find some thing that I could ask her simple 'wh" questions and she would be able to understand what I was asking and they would also give visual support.
This is what I came up with- from WHITNEYSLP

How Do You Use It? An Object Function Packet

This pack has really useful objects and cute graphics. It would be great for kids up to age 5. You can use it different ways too.On one set of the cards there is a question and they can choose from a possible 3 items located at the bottom of the sheet. You can also ask the question and lay as many different pictures on the table as you like depending on ability.

Let me know if you have any ESL kids that can read but have very low oral communication, and what your thoughts/ideas are on the topic.

Mindy

Animal Train

ANIMAL TRAIN- FOLLOWING SPATIAL DIRECTIONS

by The Speechstress

I recently started using this Animal Train Activity to target following directions and spatial directions. It also works well for targeting before, after, first, second and third.
The kids love the bright, cute graphics and how they are able to place the animals where they need to. For expressive, I would move an animal and then get the child to describe where I put it.
I have used this activity one on one but also as small group activity where the children took turns. In some of the schools I work at I used it as a center and had the entire class participate- 3 or 4 at a time. The teachers love it when I come into class  (well that's what they tell me! lol). I take the pressure off of them for a few minutes, give them ideas and resources and I usually target concepts that they don't work on.

The directions are so cute and have the answers so if the student answers incorrectly you can show them where the animal "should" be.
This activity targets comprehension of spatial terms, such as: front, back, beginning, end, between, ahead, behind, next to, far, close, upside down, etc.  But you can be creative-like I said i have used it for first, second, last, before, after, etc. It is very reasonably prices at 1.99 - but it's on sale during the Super Cyber Sale!
Check it out!

Let me know what you use for following directions and concepts.
